Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) materials. Folders of WCTU related clippings kept by Mrs. Jens K. Grondahl, Press Director, 1941-1954. These records belonged to Keith Johnson's aunt, Grace Longcor Spencer, Red Wing. Her father was a general contractor on the County Courthouse. Grace grew up in Red Wing. She married Floyd Spencer. During WWII, they went to Seattle where she worked as a welder in the shipyards. They returned after WWII and bought a farm near Park Rapids. After Floyd's death, Grace returned to Red Wing and remained independent. She died in 1992 aged 94. Grace was probably an officer in the WCTU. She did not have children. She operated a sewing machine for Riedell Skates after Floyd's death. Grace had 4 sisters and 1 brother. Her sister, Mabel Longcor Giffin, was also in the WCTU--probably was as active as Grace in the organization.
